Making connections

We have been lucky to have more visitors to Room 12 this week.  The first was Kirsten Taylor, the author of Sam's Rugby Boots.  Kirsten came to read us her picture book and explain to us how she had worked together with an illustrator, publisher and printer to make her book.  Thank you, Kirsten, for taking the time to come and read us your fantastic book.  We went to your website http://www.samsrugbyboots.co.nz/ and have been very busy entering the colouring competition!

Our second set of visitors was a group of government officials from Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia who are in Nelson on an English language course.  They came to our classroom to tell us where they were from and to teach us a song.  We also sang them a waiata and Ella S. and Michael read their information reports on trees.  It was great learning about other cultures and sharing ours.

Each week we have a special number of the week.  We do different things with our special number each day, ranging from guessing the number from the clues to making up story sums using the number.  We also record all we know about that number.  Here are our special number of the week boards for the last two weeks:

Next time you are in the classroom take a look at our special number board!

We have been acquiring knowledge about materials through our inquiry topic.  In ICT we used Inspiration to categorise materials and in the classroom we group materials according to what they are made of and then again with their properties.

  2. Hi Room 12, I love your special number activity! My special number is 13 because it is my birth-date! Have you used it in class for your special number yet?
