The start of Term 3

Folk Dancing & Skipping
Half way through the year - wow!  This term has got off to a busy start and by the look of things I think we are going to be super fit by the end of it.  We had so much fun folk dancing and I think we all surprised ourselves by how much we remembered from last year.  In PE we have started skipping and we are practising by skipping everywhere we go (to library, ICT, assembly, etc.)

Visitors
One of our school friends from last year, Andie Lou, came to visit us on Wednesday.  It was great having you back in the classroom, Andie, and to hear about your school overseas.  We also had a feathered visitor, a canary called Tweetie Bird.  Thank you Max for bringing him in to the classroom for your news.  It was lovely hearing him sing!

Setting the Scene
We kicked off our technology inquiry unit (on connecting materials), Castle Connections, with a visit to the Junior Playground to rescue our little toy rabbit that was stuck on top of the swings.  There was a lot of 'rubbish' in the playground and it was interesting to see the children using some of it to work out ways of rescuing the bunny.  Some tried to make themselves taller by standing on tins & plastic containers.  Others tried to coax the bunny onto their 'trampoline' or cloth, only to realise it was a toy and couldn't hear them calling it down.  Some used the cabbage tree leaves off the ground, but found they bent too easily so they decided to use some of the wool or fabric to tie them together to make them stronger.  Eventually Max got the rabbit down using a longer, sturdier stick.    We took the rabbit back to class and had a discussion about all the materials we used and the ways in which they could be used.

  1. The bunny rescue sounds like a lot of fun. I'm glad he didn't have to stay out in the cold.

  2. You were lucky to meet the canary! Last week we had a visit from Quanah's pet mouse.

In Room 3 we have been talking about why people have pets. On our blog we have a pet virtual fish. Maybe you could get a virtual pet for your class blog.

You could show your parents your class pet by showing them the class blog on the computer at your house! http://bunnyherolabs.com/adopt/
