End of Term 3

Masked Parade
On the last day of term Nelson Central participated in the Nelson Masked Parade to open the Nelson Arts Festival - what an amazing event!  The children had prepared by making masks and outfits; practising their waiata and chants; and participating in all the whole school rehearsals around the front field.  It was so impressive seeing the turnout of children and the way they put everything into the parade.  A big thank you to all the parents who helped with this event.  We are very proud of winning the Supreme Group Award.

Visitors
On the last day of term we also had a visit from an author and illustrator:  Ben Brown and Helen Taylor.  We had previously read their book "The Rainmaker" and were treated to Ben reading some more of his stories and Helen showing us how she goes about illustrating the books.

Massage Circle
One of the reading groups read a book about what another class does at the end of their school day.  It's called a massage circle.  The children in the reading group shared this with the rest of Room 12 and helped them make a massage circle.  The children loved it and it has now become a frequent event at the end of our school day!

Folk Dancing
Our Folk Dancing Demonstrations for parents took place towards the end of Term 3.  The children loved performing for their audience and showing all that they had learned.

Consolidating learning
Here's a picture of Jordan drawing a clock on the whiteboard when he arrived at school one morning.  It's a joy to see children consolidating knowledge learnt during the year in these impromptu ways.
